EQ: How did the issues of the early republic shape America?
For this unit, you will participate in a wiki project. The goal of this project is to create class web pages that explore various topics in American History in the early republic period. These topics are covered in chapter 6 in your American History book pages 190-219. You will be assigned a topic and work in groups to create your section of the wiki. This web page will eventually be used as a resource for the whole class when studying for the unit assessment.
Each group will assigned the following topics:
Government and Party Politics
1. Washington's Federal Government & Hamilton's Economic Plan p. 192-194 (Gabbi and Kaity)
2. Opposition to Hamilton p. 194-195 (Macky and Kathryn)
3. The Two Party System p. 196-197 (Garret and Nick)
Struggle in Foreign Policy
4. Native Americans and the U.S. Government p. 198-199 (Mike and Joey)
5. Europe and the U.S. & John Adams Administration p.199-203 (Amanda and Annette)
Age of Jefferson
6. Jefferson Administration p.203-206, 209-211 (Ashley and Ashley)
7. John Marshall's Supreme Court p. 206-207 (Jess and Claire)
8. Lewis and Clark p. 208-209 (Pete and Matt)
War of 1812
9. Issues with Britain & War Breaks out p. 214-217 (Mike N. and Jim)
10. Aftermath of the War of 1812 p.218-219 (Heather and Nicole)
Article
Each group is responsible for an article covering their topic. Using the book for background, you will also find TWO primary sources and TWO secondary sources to quote in your wiki article. Those sources will be cited at the bottom of the page (I will facilitate this aspect of the project. You must keep track of all your source material and where you attained them)
Your articles should link back to the EQ for the chapter: How did the issues of the early republic shape America? However, each section will deal with a different topic from that question. While you frame your article it is important that you keep this question in mind.
Images and other websites: You are encouraged to use images and post links to other websites. I must approve such items. DO NOT POST LINKS TO WEBSITES OR IMAGES OF ANY KIND WITHOUT MY CONSENT.
Your task is simple - research your topic and write an original article about it. The more specific and accurate the article the better grade you will earn. You may use images and any other medium to explain your article. Once the article is complete, your group will add it to the class wiki page. The end result will be a website for the class to use when exploring this topic.
Wiki Page
Once you complete your articles, you will work with the larger groups to create your wiki. The FOUR larger groups are outlined above. The larger groups will link their pages to the following Focus Questions from each of the sections in the book:
Section 1: How did debate and the role of government lead to the formation of political parties?
Section 2:How did foreign policy changes affect political debate and shape American government?
Section 3: What were the successes and failures of the Jefferson administrations?
Section 4: Why did the United States go to war with Britain, and what was the outcome of that war?
You will earn a grade for your article and a grade for the overall wiki in your larger group. I will link rubrics to the wiki. You will have classtime to work on this project, but most of the work should happen at home. Anyone who does not have internet access must see me as soon as possible.
